Safeguarding, representing and protecting our underserved youth: are we doing enough?

Extraordinary challenges face our youth today. How do our agencies, private and public, meet those challenges? Though reports of child abuse or neglect do surface, success stories also abound. To what degree are our children in danger as the result of understaffed, overworked, and poorly paid custodians? Veteran noted experts note the good and bad of this fast-growing societal concern.


Howard Talenfeld, Esq., Talenfeld Law, one of America’s leading children’s rights, injury, and child disability attorneys representing the needs of abused and neglected children, especially in cases of foster child abuse, child sexual abuse, child rape, and other harm and of children in the child welfare system.

Evan Goldman, Executive Director, HANDY (Helping Abused, Neglected, and Disadvantaged Youth) HANDY annually serves more than 1,300 at-risk children who participate in comprehensive programs that focus on education, youth development, and economic self-sufficiency.

Andy Lee, Lead Organizer, BOLD Justice, has worked for BOLD Justice for 10 years. Founded in 2007, it is made up of 20 churches and helps congregations make a meaningful contribution to righting injustice.


Cindy Arenberg Seltzer, Pres/CEO, Children’s Services Council of Broward. 
The Children’s Services Council of Broward County is an independent taxing authority established by the voters in 2000 to provide leadership, advocacy and resources necessary to enhance the lives of the children of Broward County and empower them to become responsible, productive adults.

The organization funds close to a hundred programs that serve children and families, advocates for policies that protect the interests of future generations and provides leadership that brings the child-serving community together.
