Even though Steve Bousquet has been reporting from Tallahassee for a long time, his journalistic and community ties and institutional knowledge of Broward County are unmatched by anybody in the news business.
From John Lomelo to Nick Navarro, and from Hacienda Village to the Hollywood Sportatorium, he’s seen it all.
Steve came to Fort Lauderdale in 1981 as a reporter for Channel 10’s Broward bureau, and a few years later he joined the staff of The Miami Herald. He covered tourism, city and county government and wrote a weekly column on local politics for more than a decade that was a must-read for anyone interested in the latest backroom deal in Broward.
Steve moved to the state capital in 1993 to cover state government and politics. He has covered six governors and every session of the Florida Legislature since 1988.
He has been Tallahassee bureau chief for the Herald and since 2005 for the Tampa Bay Times, which has the largest circulation of any newspaper in the state.
