Michael Mayo, Sr. Columnist, Sun Sentinel
Writing commentary about South Florida people, events and issues in print columns and online blog entries. The goal is to inform and entertain, while provoking thought, outrage or laughter. You don’t have to always agree with my views, I just ask that you read and consider them.
Grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. Graduated Tufts University in Medford, MA., with a degree in Soviet and Eastern European Studies. Spent a semester at the London School of Economics and Political Science. After leaving school, the Soviet Union crumbled and all my knowledge of Kremlinology was rendered useless, so I became a sportswriter. Worked as a part-timer at the Boston Globe, then spent a year in Spartanburg, S.C., before coming to the Sun-Sentinel in 1989 to cover sports. Became a general news columnist in 2002, now I take aim at everything under the sun.
Raising my young daughter Natalia, running half-marathons (slowly), losing weight (unsucessfully), losing golf balls(very successfully, usually in new and heartbreaking ways).
