Mark Schaunaman is a Hollywood, FL native and has over thirty-five years in the construction industry as an Operating Engineer. Mark spent twenty years working as a crane operator before moving into apprenticeship training and union administration for the last eighteen years. Currently Mark is President of South Florida Building & Construction Trades Council, representing construction trades in the South Florida area. He also holds the position of C.E.O. / Business Manager of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 487, with offices in Miami, Tampa and Delray Beach representing over fourteen hundred heavy equipment and crane operators in thirty-three counties. Mark served as Apprentice Director for the South Florida Operating Engineers Apprentice Training Program 2000-2011. During this time Mark has performed roles as OSHA Safety Training outreach instructor, National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) practical examiner and developed course curriculum for the International Union of Operating Engineers in Washington DC. He is currently Chairman of the South Florida and West Coast Florida Operating Engineers Apprentice & Training Funds.
As Mark moved into apprenticeship and administrative positions, he was given the opportunity to expand his education. He attended Florida International University and National Labor College where he graduated with B.A. in Labor Education. He then continued his education at University of Massachusetts where he received his master’s degree in Labor Administration
When not at work, Mark enjoys spending time boating with his family, his wife Mary and daughters Melissa and Jennifer. But most of all, he enjoys spending time and spoiling his granddaughter Audrey.
