Dr. Ivan Puente has been the Trauma Medical Director at Broward Health Medical Center since 1995 and has over 25 years of experience in treating trauma patients. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Surgery with Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Puente graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors Program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California – San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his General and Vascular Surgery Residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1992. Following residency, he completed fellowships in Surgical Critical Care (1993) and Trauma Surgery (1994) also at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He has been actively involved in surgical research throughout his career and has authored or co-authored a large number of publications. He has completed multiple funded projects in the field of trauma care. Recognized as a regional and national leader in Trauma Quality Improvement, Dr. Puente serves in multiple process improvement committees.
In addition to Trauma and Critical Care, Dr. Puente’s other areas of interest include Endocrine, Hernia, and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
